Delirium is highly prevalent and very bad for patients with dementia. Delirium is a dangerous medical condition that occurs in 6-38% of older Emergency Department patients and 70% of ICU patients. A person who develops delirium in the ED or hospital has a 12 times higher odds of being newly diagnosed with dementia in the next year compared to a similar patient who does not become delirious. Delirium is especially dangerous for persons living with Alzheimer Disease and Related Dementias (AD/ADRD)... Read More

Learning Skills Together (LST) is a 6-week psychoeducational intervention focused on complex care (nursing) tasks completed by family caregivers to persons living with Alzheimer's Disease and related dementias. This study aims to test the efficacy of LST at reducing caregiver depression and negative appraisal of behavioral symptoms of dementia by building caregiver self-efficacy. To do this, eligible participants will be randomized into an intervention group (LST) or a control group condition fo... Read More

The proposed research will develop and test an online Emergency Preparedness Toolkit to help caregivers prepare for their own unexpected health events. Caregivers of persons with dementia often ignore their own health needs as their primary focus is the care of the person with dementia. This can lead to a caregiver delaying their own care and subsequently emergent health events. The Emergency Preparedness Toolkit provides guidance to the caregiver as to how to identify and transfer care to a sta... Read More

AD dementia is the most common type of dementia. AChEI therapy is the standard treatment for AD dementia.
The goals of this study are to learn:
* If at least one dose level (amount) of MK-1167 works to improve a person's memory and thinking compared to a placebo

Cognitive decline in dementia is considered irreversible, however episodes of paradoxical lucidity (PL) in severe dementia suggest other mechanisms may be in play. Beyond anecdotal reports of transient PL events occurring in patients predominantly in late-stage dementia and typically lasting anywhere from a few minutes to several hours, little is known about PL. The study team proposes to develop and conduct a mixed methods prospective study of PL during end stage advanced dementia, creating a d... Read More
